Yokai Septet is a trick-taking game for 2 to 4 players about capturing Yokai, spirits and demons from Japanese folklore. The game was designed by Muneyuki Yokouchi and illustrated by Yu Yoshikawa.
In Yokai Septet, the goal is to capture the scoring Boss Yokai by strategically playing cards from your hand. Each turn, each player plays a card from their hand.
After everyone has played a card, the player who plays the strongest card in the suit of the first card wins the trick. A new trick is played until the round's end condition is met. At the end of the round, the winner of that round is determined.
In a 4-player game, the game is played as a team battle: two vs two. In 2- or 3-player games, everyone plays individually. The team or player who captures four or more Boss Yokai in a 4-player game, three or more in a 3-player game, or four or more in a 2-player game wins the round.
The winner of the round earns points based on the Boss Yokai they caught. Additional rounds are played until the final condition of the game, a total of 7 points, is met.
