It's showtime in Kabuki Tricks ! Players take on the role of producers of Kabuki performances, where the quality of the spectacle depends on the number of tricks won. The game is played over several rounds, with each player acting as the dealer once. Each round proceeds as follows:

• Each player is dealt a hand with one joker and seven random cards from four different suit suits. The dealer then determines the suit rank by laying out the suit cards in order, and also determines whether low or high cards win.

• The dealer leads by taking the first trick, and all players must follow suit if possible — except one player, who may play their joker instead.
When someone plays a joker, that player places one of their player cards face down above one of the actor cards. That card predicts the number of tricks (1, 2, or 3) they think they will win, and the actor they place it above predicts the suit of their final hand.
Additionally, the player may either turn over the High/Low card (making the highest or lowest card win), or swap two adjacent actor cards to change the suit ranking.

• Whoever plays the highest (or lowest, depending on the round) card in the highest suit wins the trick and leads the next trick.

• After seven tricks, players reveal their predictions and scoring takes place:

  • 1 point per trick won

  • 1 or 2 points for a correct prediction of the number of tricks won

  • 1 point if the last card in your hand matches the chosen actor's color

  • If the last card is a wild card and the player has not won any tricks, this scores 5 points.

The player with the highest total score after all rounds wins the game.
